phiran
A long cloak or robe worn by women and men in Kashmir.
She was wearing a dark kerchief around her head and a full-length dark phiran over a long dark shirt.
Where it comes from
Borrowed from Kashmiri پھؠرَن (phyaran), either a corruption of Classical Persian پیرَاهَن (pērāhan, “cloak, shirt”), or in turn inherited from Sanskrit परिधान (paridhā́na, “wrap, clothing”).
