1. A private organization in New Orleans or elsewhere that exists to stage a Mardi Gras Ball, Mardi Gras Parade, or both.

   In 2004, as captain of the Rex krewe — one of the more progressive Mardi Gras organizations — Billy made a hesitant approach, too little and too late, trying to get to know Tootie Montana.

Where it comes from

An intentionally archaic (or fanciful) spelling of crew, from the name of "The Mistick Krewe of Comus", the first such private organization.
