dedimus
A writ to commission private persons to do some act in place of a judge, such as to examine a witness, etc.
A Dedimus was awarded to take the Conuſance of a Fine from Baron and Feme, and the Conuſance of Baron only was returned, and the Feme would not acknowledge it.
Where it comes from
From Latin dedimus (“we gave”), from do (“to give”). So called because the writ began "Dedimus potestatem […] ".
